What is Group Life Insurance?
Group
Life insurance (sometimes called company life insurance) provides
insurance protection for all your company's employees under a
single insurance policy. Usually, annually renewable term insurance
is used to provide group life coverage. As the policy owner,
the employer has the master contract (actual insurance policy),
and each employee who is covered receives a certificate of insurance.
While it is not actually the insurance policy, it does serve
as proof of insurance. Just like other types of life insurance,
group life insurance allows you to choose your beneficiary. The
amount of coverage (benefit) is typically established by a formula
which is applied to all members of the group. For example, a
benefit might equal one or two times a group member's annual
salary. Group term coverage remains in force until either the
term of coverage ends or your employment is terminated.
Why Group Life Insurance?
Often, group life insurance
is provided within an employee benefit package. Because the term
is usually year to year and the risk of death is spread across
the entire group, the per employee cost of group coverage is
far less than what most employees would have to pay for similar
protection on an individual basis. Using group life insurance
within an employee benefits package is also attractive to the
employer because of its relatively low cost.
Whether your employee group
is small or large, PTP Insurance Agents will provide your company
with the best alternatives for affordable group life insurance.
