General Business Liability
Insurance
A
comprehensive general business liability insurance policy will
address premises & operational liability, property damage,
contractual liability, bodily injury, medical payments and advertising
injury.
Property Damage
Property damage provides insurance coverage for damage of property
belonging to others caused by non-professional or negligent acts
by the insured. It also covers liability arising out of the insured's
premises or business operations.
Bodily Injury
Bodily injury means a sickness, disease or injury sustained by
an individual or individuals, including death resulting from
any of injuries at any time. The legal definition of "bodily
injury" can vary. Some courts have ruled emotional distress
and mental injuries are bodily injuries, even though there may
be no physical bodily harm.
Personal and Advertising
Injury
Personal and advertising injury liability coverage protects the
insured business against liability from offenses like copyright
infringement, libel, invasion of privacy, slander, malicious
prosecution, false arrest, wrongful eviction, etc. as defined
in the commercial general business liability insurance policy.
Operational and Premises
Liability
The insured is covered against loss from legal liability arising
from the use, operation or maintenance of the covered premises;
and from legal liability arising out of business operations.
Work performed by independent contractors on the insured's behalf
should also be covered.
Medical Payments
The medical cost of injuries sustained in an accident that occurs
on the insured's premises to members of the general public are
addressed in this section of a general business liability insurance
policy. Coverage for medical payments usually includes all reasonable
and necessary medical, surgical, hospital, ambulance, professional
nursing, and funeral expenses for a person injured or killed
in an accident that occurs on the insured premises or from business
operations of the insured, regardless of negligence or liability.
Contractual Liability
A commercial general liability insurance policy for your business
should provide coverage for a broad range of contractual obligations
including:
- Lease contract for premises
- License agreements
- Easement agreements
- Indemnification agreements
as required by ordinance
- Elevator maintenance agreements
