Auto Insurance Terms
Bodily Injury Liability Coverage: Helps to pay for claims from anyone
you injured in an accident, up to the limit defined in your auto
insurance policy.
Collision
Coverage: When an accident
that involves a collision with another car or object, the collision
coverage provisions in the auto insurance policy will define
the insurance company's financial obligation to repair the damage
to your car, subject to any deductible, regardless of who causes
the accident. Some examples of a collision loss are:
- your car strikes an object
like a fence or tree
- your car gets damaged from
debris lying in the road
- your car hits or is hit by
another vehicle
- you hit a pedestrian, causing
damage your car
- a shopping cart dents you car
Comprehensive Coverage: If a loss occurs that is not from
a collision, such as theft, fire, vandalism or glass breakage,
the comprehensive coverage provisions in the auto insurance policy
will define the insurance company's financial obligation to repair
the damage to your car, subject to any deductible. Some examples
of a comprehensive loss include:
- your car is maliciously scratched
- a tree falls on your auto,
and it is damaged
- the tires are slashed
- your car's windshield gets
cracked by a rock
- your auto gets flooded
Liability Coverage: If you are responsible for an accident,
you are also responsible for the property and physical damages
incurred by the other people in the accident. The liability provisions
in an auto insurance policy protect you by obligating the insurance
company to pay for these damages up to the limits specified in
the policy.
Property Damage Liability
Coverage: Covers repair
or replacement of the property damaged or destroyed by you, up
to the limit you purchased in your auto insurance policy.
Uninsured & Underinsured
Motorists: If a driver
with no auto insurance or insufficient liability coverage causes
an accident, the uninsured & underinsured motorist provision
in your auto insurance policy will cover you and your passengers
for bodily injury damages sustained in the accident up to the
