So
what sets the independent agent apart?
|
|
|
|
|
- Independent insurance agents
are local in the community and have invaluable community ties
to customers and potential customers.
- They have the ability to ask
questions in order to better understand a customer's insurance
needs and are informative about their options. By talking to
customers and getting more information, an independent insurance
agent can recognise opportunities where additional policies,
greater coverage, or future policies may be required and/or needed.
It's not just about providing low-cost insurance to customers
- it's about creating a relationship built around providing the
right kind of insurance.
- Independent insurance agents
give expert and knowledgeable advice about potential options
and recommendations. It's important that insurance agents understand
some of the standard questions posed by customers and how to
answer those questions. This is where the independent agent has
the opportunity to shine. By not assuming that people understand
every aspect of their policy, agents can take the opportunity
to explain policy information and serve as a trusted source of
guidance.
- Good agencies practice continuous
learning. Just because an agent has a career in the industry
doesn't mean they should stop 'going to school.' Industry certifications
can set one agency apart from another and keep agents at the
top of their game.
- Independent insurance agents
provide customers the ability for one-stop-shopping. By understanding
and explaining how policies and coverage can be affected by a
variety of factors, agents have the opportunity to help their
customers be more comfortable with their coverage and, as a result,
turn to the agency with rate and policy questions. If an independent
agent is doing their job the right way, a customer won't look
elsewhere for lower rates - they will come to you for answers.
- Independent agents provide
expert claim advice. Nothing can be scarier than getting in an
accident and not knowing what to expect. The best agents will
be advocates for their customers, helping them understand the
claim process and making sure they, as people, are okay. True
customer service works when you create a personal relationship
with the customer, and take proactive measures to foster that
relationship.
- They have the ability to correctly
match the customer with the carrier that best serves the customers'
needs.
No single company is going to
be the lowest price all the time, and independent insurance agents
have the flexibility to work with multiple insurance companies
on the customer's behalf. Creating solid relationships with customers
should go beyond providing insurance at the lowest price. Instead,
it's more important than ever to understand customers and provide
them with the best solution at the best possible price. The lowest
price can be the most expensive price if the customer's needs
aren't met. A good independent insurance agent will provide the
customer with the right solution and service that is personal,
personalized and proactive.
